Modifying the Ownership Identity of a .EU Domain Name / Moving a .EU Domain Name to Another Customer
The .EU domain name Contact management is quite different from other domain names. There is a restriction on modifying the Registrant Contact details in .EU domain names. 1
There is a fee involved in performing either one of the following actions, as it constitutes changing the Ownership Identity of a .EU domain name:
Modifying the Company Name or Name (in the absence of a Company Name) of the Registrant Contact
or
Moving a .EU domain name to another Customer (unless the existing Registrant Contact is not being used for any other .EU domain name, in which case the domain name can be moved for free).
If you wish to simply modify the Name of the Registrant Contact (which has a Company Name associated with it) and/or other Contact Details of the Registrant Contact, then you need to follow another process. 2
To modify the Company Name or Name (in the absence of a Company Name) of the Registrant Contact of a .EU domain name
Login to your Control Panel. 3
Search for the .EU domain name and proceed to the Order Information view. 4
Click the Eu Owner Details link.
Click the Lock symbol next to the Name / organization field and then click the Yes, allow change of owner identity button.
Enter new details in the Name / organization field and then click the Save Owner Details button.
You may change the Registrant type from Individual to Organization and vice versa by selecting the appropriate Contact Type radio button.
Confirm the new owner details by clicking the Yes, Confirm Change of Owner Details button.
There is a fee involved for modifying the ownership details of a .EU domain name and you need to pay for the generated Invoice to complete the ownership modification. 5
It should be noted that modifying the Registrant Company Name or Registrant Name (in the absence of a Company Name) of a .EU domain name, will renew the domain name for a year. Your .EU domain name will now expire on the second last day of the month, one year from the last expiry date.
Example:
If a .EU domain name is expiring on 30 Oct, 2009 and you modify its Company Name or Registrant Name (in the absence of a Company Name) on 15 Aug, 2009, the domain name will be renewed and the new Expiry Date will be 30 Oct, 2010. There will be a charge associated for this Renewal.
Once the process starts, both the Current as well as the New Registrant Contact for the domain name will receive an email from the Registry for the Authorization process, which needs to be approved within 14 days.
To move a .EU domain name to another Customer
Login to your Control Panel, search for the domain name which needs to be moved and proceed to the Order Information view. 6
Click the Move Services link on the top right-hand side of the screen, to initiate the process.
Here, you would have to mention the following details:
the New Customer's ID of this account. The Customer ID is a unique number associated with a Customer's Profile. If you do not know the Customer ID of the new account, you can find it in Settings -> Primary Profile within the new Customer Control Panel.
the New Customer's username of the Customer account where you wish to move the domain name.
NoteIf you are moving the domain name under a different Reseller, but have not created a Customer Account under that Reseller, you need to correspond with this Reseller for your Customer ID and Username (Email Address) to move your domain name to this Customer Control Panel.
You will encounter the below error messages in case:
the Customer Username (Email Address) and the Customer ID you specified are not of the same Customer:
AttentionThe Customer username and Customer ID are not of the same Customer
the Customer Username (Email Address) and/or the Customer ID you specified are incorrect:
AttentionInvalid Customer
Select the Contact details to use after moving the domain name:
Use existing contacts of the Domain Name: This option will move the existing Contact under the new Customer and keep the Whois Details of your domain name as is, even after moving the domain name. Hence, you can use this option only if the existing Contact is not being used by other domain names. Also, through this option, you can move the domain name to the new Customer for free.
Use new customer's default contact: This option will associate the default Contact under the new Customer with the domain name.
Use new contact: Provide new Contact details here. A new Contact with these details will be created under the new Customer and associated with the domain name.
Click the Move services to other Customer button.
Confirm the new Customer & new owner details and click the Confirm and Move button.
There is a fee involved for moving a .EU domain name to another Customer and you need to pay for the generated Invoice to complete the move process. 7
It should be noted that moving a .EU domain name to another Customer (billable action), will renew the domain name for a year. The domain name will now expire on the second last day of the month, one year from the last Expiry date.
Example:
If a .EU domain name is expiring on 30 Oct, 2009 and you move the domain name to another Customer on 15 Aug, 2009, the domain name will be renewed and the new Expiry Date will be 30 Oct, 2010. There will be a charge associated for this Renewal.
Once the process starts, both the Current as well as the New Registrant Contact for the domain name will receive an email from the Registry for the Authorization process, which needs to be approved within 14 days.
If the email address associated with the Current and the New Registrant Contact is the same, the Registry requires the Current Registrant to provide approval through a FAX. The New Registrant, however, may respond to the email received from the Registry and approve the action.
Even if the Current and the New Registrant Contact email address differ, the authorization can be provided through a FAX to the Registry, from both the Current as well as the New Registrant Contact.
Templates of the confirmation FAX are provided below:
The request is processed once the Registry receives approval from both the Current and the New Registrant.
